Introduction: TANIA APARTMENTS CRETE
Last update 27th of July 2009

Uw accommodatie voor deze week

Tania Apartments, our small but fresh and spacious holiday park is situated on one of the most beautiful bays of south east Crete. You will not find mass tourism here, but only beautiful crystal clear seawater and rough mountains. You can reach the beach by walking through a savage garden. It will take you less than a minute on foot. The tranquillity, the sun and the ocean will give you the opportunity to rest in a very relaxed atmosphere. You will be staying in one of our ten comfortable and luxurious apartments where you will be able to rest and look at the stars on your own terrace surrounded by grape plants. Yours and our privacy are of significant importance.

Our Ferma Bay

Our guests come from several different Countries of the recently enlarged European Union. Especially in July and August many Greeks from Crete but also from the main land, come and stay with us. Our guests come from cities such as Chania, Heraklion, Athens and Thessaloniki. Besides our Greek visitors, we also receive Italian, English, German, French, Austrian, Belgian and Dutch people. Sometimes we also have visitors from the Scandinavian Countries and the Iberian Peninsula: Spain and Portugal. Czech Republic and Lithuania have started to show some interest too.

Small-scaled. Because of the fact that we are small, we are able to offer you good service and enough personal attention. Every morning breakfast is served by Loes on our terrace. We can help you decide what you would like to visit that particular day. We know many interesting and fun day trips that will show you the real authentic life on Crete. If you want you can also have a delicious dinner that is served, for our guests only, on our covered terrace. Specific wishes regarding food will of course be taken into account. Come and join us for dinner. We usually have dinner on a large table with 12 guests and we have a really great time. We often have interesting discussions and play some music. Sometimes we listen to old hits or go into the mountains to eat accompanied by the landlord and his son who play original Crete music. Everybody has a great time and the fact that we are a small park, among other things of course, certainly contributes to that.

The climate here is wonderful. Winter and summer are both agreeable. The average temperature here is somewhat higher than in the north and west of the island because of the favourable position. During the summer it never rains and there is usually a pleasant little northern breeze. In spring and autumn it might sometimes rain a little bit. The ocean has a nice warm temperature and maintains this temperature until December. We have beach-chairs and parasols that you can take with you to the beach. For those of you who come with small children or simply prefer a pool, you will find one at not even 500 metres from here.

Crete is a very large island. The island is 260 kilometres from east to west. The largest point is 60 kilometres. The island has many sand and shingle beaches, high mountains, spectacular cliffs and beautiful cleaves. There are nice little mountain villages and pleasant small towns where one can have a tasty meal. We have made a broad selection of day trips and put them on paper for our guests. While we have breakfast we can discuss what you would like to do and afterwards we will give the right itinerary for free. We have several itineraries; one can travel by car, by bike or on foot, choose archaeological itineraries or combine them. Especially in April nature here is overwhelming. This area has many indigenous and endemic plants and flours. During the last two springs me and Martijn, a true botanist, went into the mountains. In all of the years that I have been living on Crete, I had never seen these many flours and vegetation. On the page “Botanize” of this web-site you can read the report I have made and take a look at several pictures. Behind us lies the Tripty mountain. Its top, the “Leader”Afendis Stavromenos, is at 1475 meters above sea level. This “Oros Tripty” is hardly visited by tourists. It however gives you the opportunity to go for a walk. On top of the mountain you can see the ocean of Crete up north as well as the Libic Ocean in the south. This mountainous area has many authentic mountain villages one can visit. We can also take the jeeps and go into the mountains. It is very exiting and there is a lot to discover. The ocean has a lot of interesting sea life. I can provide you with snorkels and teach you the basics of underwater research. Almost daily you may find open-air markets here. During the summer you can watch and listen to traditional Crete music and dances that are performed on the town squares. You can of course also join the dancers. Ierapetra, ten kilometres west from here, is the most southern situated city of Europe. It has over 25.000 inhabitants and tourism has still not influenced the traditional Crete life style. Ierapetra has a beautiful boulevard and many restaurants. You will absolutely enjoy your sunny holiday at the seaside. This city also has a modern and spacious shopping area only for pedestrians where you can have some Greek coffee and traditional cake. Parking meters have not yet been introduced here. You can park your car for free near the port. You can therefore always pay a visit to this town. One kilometre east from here lies the small and picturesque village of Ferma. Ferma has some restaurants among which giros restaurants, giros can be compared with a Greek pittah bread sandwich filled with roast lamb, and two supermarkets. You can go to Ierapetra by bus. The bus stops just in front of our park. The picturesque village of Ferma has a supermarket that can be reached either by walking on the beach, or by taking the main street that leads to the village. Your hosts

Have a look at some reactions of previous guests on the web page “References”. We were able to rent the cars at a good price. All cars have an inclusive good all-risk and passengers insurance. All taxes are included in the price. The car can be picked up at and brought back to the airport. You don’t need to pay reservation costs. Our holiday park is over 8000 square meters and we have ten luxurious apartments. All the apartments are spacious and have terraces that face south. The grape leaves that grow on your pergola will provide you with enough shadow. Have a look at the web page “Pictures” of this web-site. In August and September you can pick and eat the delicious ripe grapes. All apartments are on the ground floor. The bungalows have a little kitchen with a refrigerator, a dining room with extra chairs, a bathroom with a shower and a sink, and of course a toilet. The bedroom has one double bed and one single bed. The size of your bungalow depends on the number of people that will be staying. Bungalows with two bedrooms are available for three or more persons. These apartments will have one or two extra single beds. Take a look at the web page “Pictures” to see an HA type bungalow. On your terrace you will find a table and garden chairs. As many as you like. You can consider your terrace as your living room. Most of the time you will live outside. Our park is situated on a beautiful bay with crystal clear seawater. You can reach the sea by walking through a rough area. Please have a look at the pictures to have a better idea. When walking through the fir-trees you will see the intense blue inviting ocean just in front of you.
It will take you a minute to reach it. Many guests go for a swim before they have breakfast served by Loes.
